Rebecca Wood Barrett
Rebecca Wood Barrett is a storyteller and filmmaker with a diverse writing and filmmaking skillset and knowledge base, founded on her degrees in Film (BAA) from Ryerson University, and Creative Writing (MFA) from the University of British Columbia.
With twenty years’ experience in marketing and advertising in various industries, including film, television, radio, maritime, residential architecture, construction and mountain tourism—she has had the benefit of working in many styles. She can switch from word-smithing in corporate boots, to copywriting in red Converse, to kicking out a script in stilettos. A Whistler local since 1998, Rebecca has become an expert in the niche of advertising and marketing for companies in the business of mountain culture. As Senior Producer for a Whistler-based media company, she wrote and directed hundreds of commercial videos and digital campaigns for local and national clients.
In 2014, Rebecca founded Buzzworks Creative. In its first year, the company won the Smartest Start category at the 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
On most days you’ll find Rebecca at her desk slinging ink, or behind a camera with the Buzzworks crew. Otherwise, you’ll find her in one of her other creative nooks—mentoring emerging writers, and enjoying the collaborative fizz of making films for competitions like the WSSF’s 72 Hr Filmmaker Showdown and Cornucopia’s Vinos, in which she’s been a three-time winner of the People’s Choice award.
